Shortlisted for the IRP Awards 2018
Fingers crossed we are successful on awards night, 29th November. For the second year running HR GO plc have been shortlisted for the IRP Awards - in the category of Corporate and Social Responsibility Practitioners of the Year.
Our entry is based on our very successful 60 Acts of Kindness campaign that we ran in 2017 in celebration of our Diamond Jubilee.
When planning our celebrations, back in 2016, we identified that we wanted to do something more significant than a one day party, something that we could sustain throughout the year and that lots of people could get involved in. The idea of being able to give something back as a result of our business successes also appealed.
And so, the idea of 60 Acts of Kindness to mark 60 years in business was born.
All 300+ staff across the 40+ HR GO offices in the UK and Poland (not limited to recruitment businesses), were encouraged to come up with ideas, and carry them out, to make sure we hit the target of 60 Acts of Kindness by year end. They were given free rein to join organised charity fundraising events, run their own fundraising activities, or to volunteer their time.
Being able to choose an Act of Kindness that meant something to individuals or teams in their local communities was a really important part of getting buy-in from across the company. Everyone could get involved in something meaningful to them personally, rather than having a central cause imposed on them.
Each activity was reported to the Marketing team and featured on a webpage (https://www.hrgo.co.uk/60-acts-of-kindness) which tracked the total number of hours volunteered as well as the money raised for good causes. This public sharing was good for celebrating the good work of our teams as well as encouraging more of them to get involved.
To encourage even greater participation, the HR GO plc Board agreed to match fund the money raised for charity. An internal vote was held and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) was chosen as our national charity.
By the end of the year, we beat the target of 60 Acts of Kindness (completing a total of 69) and clocking up 2,300 volunteer hours in addition to the efforts that generated £27,000 for charity.
This amount was then matched by a donation to the RNLI. A cheque was presented on board a lifeboat, the RNLB City of London, based at Dover Lifeboat Station. https://www.hrgoplc.co.uk/news/2018/march/54-000-of-donations-helps-save-lives
This brought the total sum raised for charity during the anniversary year to £54,000. A winning initiative in our eyes at least!
